Bodyweight Exercises – How to Increase Your Core Fitness Strength and Athletic Ability Tenfold!
Bodyweight exercises are superb for building incredible core strength, awesome core fitness, rock hard musculature, and are key to unleashing your peak athletic performance, health and vitality. Most bodyweight exercises require very limited to no equipment, and can be performed in very limited time and space. Gymnasts are a testament to the superb effectiveness of bodyweight exercises. They are amongst the strongest and the most all round superior athletes on the planet. They can perform tremendous feats of strength and have physiques sculpted straight out of the statue of Hercules himself – whereby most of their training regimen consists of bodyweight exercises. Evidently, bodyweight exercises work! So I guess the real question is – why don’t more people do bodyweight exercises?
The Cornerstone for Strength and Athleticism – So Why Aren’t More People doing it?
There are a few reasons for why so few people do bodyweight training. And I guess the number one reason may shock you, but it really comes down to human psychology. The more expensive something is, the better we perceive it to be. Really, it’s true. And it’s not our fault really, because it’s the way we’ve been conditioned to think since we popped out into this world. Did you know for example, that the best thing that you can do for your mind in regard to any psychological issue you may have (including stress and depression) – is meditate. You may be saying “really? But that’s too easy. Surely it can’t be that easy.” Well, if you try it yourself and you may find that it is not as easy as you may think. Simple, yes… absolutely. But easy – far from it. Now you may have to spend a few dollars to learn the meditation techniques, but that’s it. Once you know, you know. Of course you may prefer to attend meditation classes, but ultimately, the biggest thing that you’ll have to invest – is your time. And this is no different when it comes to exercise and investing in your health and fitness. But who can afford to put in the time, right?
It’s about the $$$ & the Myths that go along with it.
We’d rather spend more of our money on expensive gym memberships and gimmicky “as seen on TV” fitness equipment that promises to give us a rock hard body in just 6 minutes. But are we really saving time, or are we paying for all that unnecessary crap with money that we exchange for time in our jobs and sitting in a sea of traffic. Hmmmm. If you didn’t get it the first time, you may want to read this last paragraph again. It may just change the way you think and act around many things in your life.
So the first reason is money. Fitness is one of the biggest industries in the world, and no one is going to promote training methods that won’t enable them to earn big bucks on selling you the latest gizmos. The second reason, stemming from the first reason really, is that when people think of bodyweight exercises, they tend to think of a hand full of exercises at the most:
Pull-ups
Push-ups
Leg lifts
Sit-ups
Crunches
From this point of view, bodyweight exercises have a ceiling on just how difficult the exercises can be, and have a ceiling on how strong you can become from performing them. But let me ask you this – do you think that a gymnast able to perform full planche, got to the level of core strength and body awareness required to pull it off, through performing regular push-ups? Of course they didn’t. They got there through progressively performing more and more difficult bodyweight exercises and by performing them in a specific way. Progressive Strength Development
The great thing about bodyweight exercises is that your strength can be developed progressively without the need to buy any new equipment as you become stronger. It’s only a matter of progressing to perform a more difficult exercise type or exercise variation. I have increased the strength and athletic ability of many of my clients tenfold and more through bodyweight training – many of whom previously had exercised extensively using heavy weights and gym equipment. They are typically a little apprehensive at first to the benefits it will give them. But within only a few sessions, they are amazed and ecstatic at the rapid results they have gained from following a bodyweight exercise regimen.
So if you are serious about increasing your strength, gaining explosive power, and increasing your overall athletic ability tenfold and more, it’s essential that you implement a bodyweight exercise program as part of your training regimen.
If you haven’t thought about it before, then I’ll leave you with this food for thought. With all the apparent advances in exercise equipment and technology, the armed forces still use as their judging criteria for strength and fitness – not the amount of weight their elite can lift, but the amount and ability of bodyweight exercises they can perform.
Happy Training and Strength Gaining.
